Glenowen Court is Housing with Care Scheme in Andersonstown and has been in operation since 1994. It has recently undergone a substantial refurbishment to communal areas to improve the living spaces for residents. Glenowen Court caters for 44 frail elderly people providing care and support 24 hours/day. Each ensuite flat is carpeted and painted with a range of high and low level storage. There is a small kitchenette facility, TV point, BT telephone point, small lockable cupboard for secure storage. There are several communal areas including dining rooms and lounges. Residents have access to a patio area at the front of the building and a small garden at the rear. Glenowen Court is at the heart of the Andersonstown community with easy access to public transport, places of worship, shops and a local health centre.
Staff are trained in NVQ Management, Health and Social Care, Catering and Housekeeping. Each resident has an individually tailored care and support plan that includes management of personal care needs, medication, special diets, meeting spiritual needs and activity provision, enshrined in the core values of the organisation.
Glenowen Court recently won an EAC Housing for Older People Award for providing an excellent home, lifestyle and services to the residents who live there. It was the residents who live in Glenowen Court who nominated the scheme for this award. Residents had to comment on areas such as the range of care services, the design of the building, the staff and management, involvement in decision making and remaining part of the local community.
Glenowen Court is regulated and inspected by Northern Ireland Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority who have consistently noted the high standards of care and support, and the dedication of all staff. Belfast City Council has graded the catering service as 5 stars - the highest score attainable.
