Fold Housing Association have presented donations from its annual Fold Family Christmas Appeal to a number of groups across the province including the Rainbow Group, Crossmaglen, Rathgill Community Association , Bangor, Saint Vincent De Paul, Cookstown, The Antioch Food Bank, Cookstown and the Ashton Community Trust in North Belfast.
Tommy Sands, Housing Officer at Fold’s South East Regional Office in Newry said, “Over 800-strong staff , tenants at over 100 Fold schemes and the public have donated toys for children, gifts for young people and non-perishable foods for Christmas hampers that we hope will relieve some of that added pressure this Christmas. We work in partnership with various established community groups across Northern Ireland to identify and distribute these resources to support families in need and are delighted to be working with groups such as the Rainbow Group who will distribute the gifts, on our behalf, to families in the local community.
He added, “Fold Housing Association has also donated cash which will be used to purchase fuel or electricity vouchers by the groups for families in need of such assistance.”
Finally, he said, “Fold would like to thank all our tenants, staff, partners and friends who made donations. We are touched by the generosity of everyone who has helped with our Family appeal.”
Edna Hand, from the Rainbow Group in Crossmaglen said, “These kind donations are greatly appreciated. They take some of the pressure off families, especially those with children. At this time of year it might seem that there is abundance for everyone but this is not the case. The donations of food for hampers, toys for children, gifts for young people and assistance towards fuel and electricity will help some of those families struggling over Christmas.”
This is the third year Fold Housing Association have organised the Family Christmas Appeal, which has proved to be very successful, helping over 400 families across Northern Ireland.
