St Georges Boxing Club, founded in 1929, is Belfast's oldest amateur boxing club and celebrated its first annual showcase event in over 20 years at St Georges Market on 8 July 2026.
The event brought together more than 400 community members, families and supporters to celebrate local talent, the club's rich heritage and participation in sport. The showcase featured 15 organised boxing contests, alongside speeches and storytelling reflecting on the history, achievements and lasting impact of St Georges Boxing Club.
By promoting physical activity and structured sporting opportunities for young people, the event helped strengthen community cohesion across The Market, Short Strand and Lower Ormeau areas. It provided a safe, inclusive environment that celebrated discipline, respect and achievement while highlighting the positive role of amateur boxing within the local community.

St Georges Boxing Club Showcase is supported by the Department for Communities and the Northern Ireland Housing Executive’s ‘Housing for All’ Shared Housing Programme. The Programme has its origins in the NI Executive Together: Building a United Community Strategy which reflects the Executive’s commitment to improving community relations and continuing the journey towards a more united and shared society. A potential £14.4m will be invested in the Gasworks shared housing development and associated five-year Good Relations Plan.
Radius Housing has 17 shared housing developments across Northern Ireland. Radius works alongside the Gasworks Advisory Group, which plays an important role in shaping and supporting the development of the scheme’s Good Relations Plan. The Gasworks Good Relations Plan includes ‘Bridging’ events delivered to the wider community to encourage a range of good relations outcomes inlcuding Health and Wellbeing, Education and Training.
