At Radius Housing we see the person and not their dementia. We actively encourage our residents to express their personality. Each resident has their own tailored care and support plan reflecting their tastes, interests and individual care and support needs and are supported to maintain their independence, exercise choice and make their own decisions.
Our schemes are specifically designed for people with dementia. There are open communal spaces both inside and outside to enable residents to walk freely in a secure and safe environment.
Each resident has their own flatlet with an en-suite bathroom. Residents are encouraged to furnish their flatlet with personal belongings, making it their home. Radius Housing also provides furniture if needed.
Most of our properties registered for dementia care provide 24 hour care and support with the exception of 3 supported housing schemes, Barn Halt Cottages and Gnangara Bungalows, where support is provided between 8am – 10pm and Spelga Avenue, where support is available from 8am – 8pm.
We arrange medical and other professional service providers to visit the scheme such as:
We believe in providing a well-balanced diet using fresh and seasonal ingredients. Before a resident moves in, we will sit down with them and their carer to discuss their dietary requirements, including any specially prescribed diet. Catering services are inspected by local Environmental Health Services ensuring full compliance with Safe Catering Guidelines.
All our meals are freshly cooked on-site at the scheme. All menu plans are displayed in the communal dining rooms and on resident noticeboards. Meals are generally served in our communal dining rooms, allowing residents to meet and socialise, however meals can also be accommodated in a resident’s own flatlet should this be their wish to do so.
An active lifestyle can make a huge difference to our residents. Staff arrange activities that stimulate the mind and body and also encourage socialising with others. All our activities are tailored to each individual residents' interests, ensuring that they are engaged and willing to get involved. Residents are encouraged to bring their own ideas for activities and participate in developing the programme of events with the staff at the scheme.
Most schemes will arrange day trips and shopping outings for residents, whilst providing a range of activities in the home, including arts & crafts, musical entertainment, reminiscing, exercise sessions, spa days, quizzes and other entertainment.
We aim to ensure each resident can continue to maintain links with their local community by getting out and about.
Your health is very important. Where possible you will retain your GP and other healthcare providers. We can arrange new providers for you necessary. We can manage all aspects relating to medication if required, or otherwise support you to keep doing this yourself.
