Housing association announces increased investment for new build homes in 2019/2020.

Radius Housing completed a record 363 new homes in 2018/19, bringing the total number of homes they provide for families, the elderly and single people in Northern Ireland to nearly 13,000. Following the success of this year’s £14m build programme, the housing association has announced additional investment which will see 469 new homes on site in 2019/2020, including the £3.3m project to deliver 22 new homes on the Beersbridge Road, where construction has recently commenced.

The new association set an ambitious target of building 800 new homes in the first three years, and following the record year in 2018/19, Radius' Chief Executive John McLean is aiming even higher with a commitment to deliver 2000 new homes over their five year corporate plan.

In 2018, Radius announced a new £50million funding package to support development plans and this funding has helped Radius work towards a target of 800 new homes on site by 2020. Alongside the new social housing developments, Radius has successfully sold all homes in their first affordable housing schemes in Bangor and Dungannon and are progressing a number of other mixed tenure developments across Northern Ireland.

Announcing the record number of completions, Radius Housing Chief Executive, John McLean, said “When Radius was formed just over two years ago our ambition was to build new, high quality homes right across Northern Ireland. The fact that we have just completed a record year of completions of new homes is a testament to the drive of our development team. We are not only providing new general needs accommodation we are also able to help families get onto the housing ladder with new affordable homes, and are contributing significantly to overall government targets for housing construction.

“These development projects also support the local economy, keeping much needed construction jobs and apprenticeships in the local economy. In meeting and exceeding our own targets Radius is helping to address housing need in areas of high demand, and we are committed to making a bigger impact through our ongoing community development programmes.”
