Action Cancer's Big Bus Visits Fold

12 Jan 2015

As part of Fold''s Health and Wellbeing programme, we were delighted to welcome the Action Cancer big bus to Fold “ helping us all to get the New Year off to a healthy start .

Some 50 employees took the opportunity to avail of a free health check open to all staff which included blood pressure, cholesterol testing, weight and general health and for female staff, breast awareness and screening.

One member of Fold team said, I had never been for breast screening before, so when the opportunity came up, it seemed a good idea to get checked out. Although I have no history of breast cancer in my family, I am aware that early detection is important. The screening has made me become more mindful of what I should be looking out for and the importance of being breast aware. I was very anxious before the screening but I felt reassured by the relaxed and supportive environment on the Action Cancer bus.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer in females with approximately 1,000 women diagnosed and 300 women who lose their lives to the disease each year in Northern Ireland.

The most effective proven method to reduce deaths from breast cancer is through regular screening of women at risk.

If you have any concerns, go directly to your GP.
