Fold Housing Association Raises £120,000 For Local Charities

01 Apr 2016

We are proud to announce we have so far raised £120,000 for our charity partners during the last five years.

We reached this figure after recently presenting a cheque for £44,000 to our nominated corporate charity partner this year, Alzheimer’s Society.

To date, our tenants, staff and friends have taken part in a range of activities including running marathons, sponsored walks, car boot sales, charity baking days, Come Dine with Me evenings and quizzes. New challenges have been set for staff and tenants which have seen personal goals being broken.

On top of the financial contribution to the Alzheimer’s Society, many of our staff have given generously of their time and volunteered at important events in the charity’s calendar.

Every two years Fold Housing Association selects a corporate charity to support. Over the last five years we have worked with Chest, Heart and Stroke, Macmillan Cancer Support and Alzheimer’s Society.

John McLean, our Chief Executive said: “It is fantastic to know that our fundraising efforts have resulted in such a significant financial contribution to local charities. The partnerships we have formed have had great benefits, not only for the charities, but for our tenants, their families and our staff, who have all played such an important role at each of the hundreds of events we have held during the years.

“It was a natural fit for Fold to work with the Alzheimer’s Society as we provide specialist housing and care facilities across Northern Ireland for people with dementia. Our relationship with this charity has provided the impetus we needed to roll out our specialist knowledge across the organisation to become a ‘Dementia Friendly Community’.”

He added: “Our board, the senior management team and staff at head office, along with our telecare advisors, who provide help and support for our personal alarm service, have all undertaken Dementia Friendly Community training. This year we will be increasing the level of activity we aim to do with our charity partner in an attempt to raise even more funds in the future.”

Bernadine McCrory, Director of Operations for Alzheimer’s Society in Northern Ireland, said: “Fold is a terrific charity partner for Alzheimer’s Society to work with on the many creative fundraising events in communities across Northern Ireland and in delivering practice changes within the organisation, as it becomes more dementia friendly. It has been great to see the involvement of so many staff, tenants, family and friends in all of the events held to date.

“There are 20,000 people with dementia in Northern Ireland. Alzheimer’s Society has a vision of a world without dementia, in the meantime we provide information and support services, campaign and fund world-leading research. As a charity, we rely on the generosity of individuals and corporate partners such as Fold to help us continue our vital work so that Alzheimer''s Society can continue leading the fight against dementia.”
