Newcastle to Host Major Jobs Fair

Newcastle is to play host to a major Job Fair on Tuesday 31 March between 9:30am and 1:00pm.

The event, which is free and open to all, will take place in the Slieve Donard Hotel, Newcastle. The Job Fair has been organised by the Department for Employment and Learning.
 
Speaking ahead of the event, Employment and Learning Minister Dr Stephen Farry said: ''This event brings employers, support organisations and jobseekers together under one roof. The Job Fair has something for everyone and I would encourage anyone, whether in work, unemployed or simply considering their education and training options, to explore the services that will be available on the day.''
 
The Job Fair will offer jobseekers employment opportunities, careers guidance and advice on training and jobsearch skills. Over 20 employers including BT Flex, MJM, Peak Discovery / Winterfell Tours, Norbrook, Blue Fin Software and Kilkeel Seafoods will be in attendance, as will a number of support and training organisations. A number of organisations will be in attendance with a view to employing people in posts supporting the upcoming Irish Open golf tournament to be held at Royal County Down Golf Club at the end of May.
 
The Minister continued: ''A range of support organisations, for example my Department''s Careers Service and Employment Service, will be present to provide individuals with information, advice and guidance on a range of training and employment schemes. These can assist individuals to progress towards work and better employment prospects, equipping them with the skills to compete in the labour market and meet the needs of employers both now and in the future.''
 
Visitors to the event will also have the opportunity to participate in a series of job club workshops and can receive assistance with online jobsearch. A free bus service is available from various locations and visitors should check bus times and availability with their local Jobs and Benefits Office or via http://www.jobcentreonline.com
 
Andrew Porter from Winterfell Tours who organise team building events including one based upon the awarding winning Game of Thrones television series and will be recruiting at the event said: ''The Job Fair gives us the opportunity to interact with potential applicants and allows our recruitment to be more effective. This event demonstrates that DEL, local employers and training organisations are working in partnership to help jobseekers find the most appropriate route into employment and employers recruit a skilled work force.''
