Radius & Habinteg Support Holywood 55+ Club

29 Sep 2017

Radius Housing and Habinteg Housing Association have come together to support one of Holywood’s longest standing Clubs for older people.

Julie Crozier, Community Services Programme Worker, Ards and North Down Borough Council, said, “The Holywood 55+ Club has been running for a number of years to provide social, recreational and educational activities for all people in the Holywood area over 55 years of age.  We aim to build confidence, provide support, friendship and stimulation though a wide and varied programme which meets the needs of all those in the Holywood area in the 55+ age group from all backgrounds.

“We are thrilled with the generous donation of £2000 from Radius and Habinteg and wish to thank them for the boost to our funds which will allow us to continue plan a range of activities for members – from music to dancing, arts, crafts and guest speakers - throughout the year.”

Darren McKinney, Chief Executive, Habinteg Housing Association said, “We are delighted to help ensure, along with our partners in Radius, the continuation of the 55+ Club for the benefit of older people in Holywood. Like Radius, Habinteg has offices and accommodation in the town and this gesture allows us to demonstrate our support for the wider community in line with our commitment to Corporate Responsibility.”

Deirdre Carr, Care Services Manager, Radius Housing said, “There is growing evidence that involvement in the community and personal interests and friends outside one’s immediate family is good for everyone.   As we live in an aging society, is it important that we all support opportunities for older people to remain living independently for as long as possible and this includes opportunities for social interaction and increasing connections with others and the wider community.

“We’re delighted to make the donation, in partnership with Habinteg, which fits with our community engagement programme and ethos of building communities.”

Anyone interested in joining the club is invited to come along to their sessions on Monday 2pm-4pm in Redburn Community Centre or on a Tuesdays 2pm - 4pm in Queen’s Leisure Complex or call Julie Crozier on 028 9042 8036.
