Radius gives gongs to good neighbours & great gardens

From glorious gardens to good neighbours, Radius Housing has celebrated the people who make their housing developments great - the tenants. The Radius Tenant Awards recognise the value that so many people bring to their local Radius communities, from craft projects and healthy living, to community pride and inspiring young people. The 2022 winners were announced at their recent tenant conference in Cookstown.

Radius Housing is a leading social housing provider, managing more than 13,000 homes in 80 towns across Northern Ireland, as well as providing care and support to thousands more. The Tenant Awards are held annually, and aim to recognise the important role tenants have in building strong communities.

With more than 100 nominations across all the categories, the judges panel had a high calibre of entries to consider. The Awards categories were Radius Heroes, which recognised good neighbours, Best Kept Gardens, Community Pride, Creativity Award, Healthy Living & Learning Award and Inspirational Young Person.

The Radius Heroes winners were:

•   Margaret McKelvey, Donard Fold Newcastle

•   Nigel Fowler, Woodglen Lisburn

•   Madeleine Weir, Millbrae Fold Broughshane

•   Gary Kirkwood, Scrabo Fold Newtownards

•   Mary McClaughlin, Malton Fold Belfast

•   Dean Kelly, Laurel Gardens Coleraine.

The other winners were:

•   Community Pride Award 2022 Maine Fold Randalstown.

•   Creativity Award - Maureen Reid Cromlyn Fold Hillsborough.

•   Healthy Living and Learning Award - Global Crescent Belfast

•   Inspirational Young Person - Mya Darragh Global Crescent.

Best Kept Garden

•   Individual Garden Winner - Robert and Fiona Kane The Fort Bangor

•   Best Shared Garden General Needs - Global Crescent Belfast

Sheltered Gardens section winner were:

•   Tullyvallen Fold - Newtownhamilton

•   Blaris Fold - Lisburn

•   Sloan Court - Belfast

•   Malton Fold - Belfast

•   Neillsbrook Fold - Randalstown

•   Fold Mews - Bangor

•   Joint-winners: Foyle Fold - Derry/Londonderry & Rathain Fold - Coleraine

Speaking at the awards event, Radius Housing Chief Executive John McLean said “At Radius we know the value our tenants bring to the community. From those who brighten up the day with a blooming garden, to the neighbours who are always there to lend a hand. Radius Housing schemes are always a hive of activity, from art projects to exercise clubs. What these help to achieve is a wonderful sense of community and improve the wellbeing of all tenants.

“The Radius Tenant Awards are an important way to recognise the role that so many people have in making our schemes such great places to live, and we are delighted that we are able to award so many people and schemes with the awards this year. This year we had more entires than ever before, and the judging panel had their work cut out to select winners, which shows the important impact our tenants have on community life in Radius schemes.”
