Seven Oaks Care Home Open Day

Fold Housing Association''s Seven Oaks Housing-with-Care scheme took part in the national Care Home Open Day by inviting the public in to their creative themed event at Crescent Link, Derry-Londonderry, on Friday 19 June 2015.
Care Home Open Day is a UK wide initiative inviting care homes to open their doors to their local communities, welcoming the public and arranging events and activities that help to create lasting links between care home residents and their local communities.
Mrs Toni Strawbridge, Registered Manager at Seven Oaks said, ''The Open Day was all about showing people what excellent care homes, such as Seven Oaks, are really about and how we can be at the centre of local communities, developing relationships across the generations.''
She added, ''This important connection is something that the team at Seven Oaks has nurtured since opening in June 2001. The scheme already acts as a community hub, hosting summer and winter songs programmes, a Body Wisdom Project and holding Ti Chi classes. We also facilitate placements for Health and Social care students and information visits for local and overseas nursing students.
As part of the Care Home Open day 2015, Seven Oaks hosted arts and crafts and pamper sessions, cake decoration activities and a vintage tea party. Everyone who dropped in received the usual warm welcome, met staff and residents, saw the excellent facilities and service on offer and heard first hand what we are all about at Seven Oaks. We were delighted to welcome family, friends, and elected representatives, Deputy Mayor of Derry City and Strabane District, Alderman Thomas Kerrigan and Gary Middleton MLA.
"We''re keen to dispel any myths about care homes and Care Home Open Day give us another opportunity to remind people that care homes in every community are filled with unique, intelligent and charming characters, and run by special people that really do care.
