Small Change Makes a Big Difference

30 Jul 2015

The small change collected by residents of Fold Housing Association''s Belsize Court in Lisburn is making a big difference to local charities including Action Cancer and Northern Ireland Hospice.
Scheme Co-ordinator Kathleen Wilson said, "Residents at Belsize Fold initiated a ˜don''t let small change weigh you down box" that they keep in the foyer. Family, friends and visitors to the Fold are kindly invited to make a donation and every six months we count what has been donated and vote on suggested charities.  The group love to support local causes close to our hearts. We gathered in £150 which we donated to Action Cancer and today, we presented £210 to Northern Ireland Hospice.  At the minute we are using the donation box to collect for Alzheimers Society which is Folds corporate charity partner for the next 2 years.
She added, The idea of the small change box is simple, but effective. We get to hear about local causes and are able to contribute to the local community by fundraising for them in this way. The small change soon adds up to make a positive difference. It is definitely win-win for everyone!''

Jenay Doyle, Northern Ireland Hospice said "We would like to thank the staff and residents of Belsize Court for their support. It comes at a time when we need it most. The race is now on to raise the remaining £1.6m needed to complete the state-of-the-art £13m rebuild project. Once completed, the new Hospice will be the centre of excellence in palliative care in Northern Ireland. Donations like this really demonstrate how small change can make a big difference to NI Hospice and the families with life-limiting illnesses that we care.
Belsize Court has 23 tenants living independently in their own apartments.  They have beautiful gardens a great social calendar.  If you would like to find out more about accommodation at Belsize Court, please contact Kathleen Wilson, Scheme Coordinator on 028 9260 2044 or visit our website at www.foldgroup.co.uk
