Sod Cutting for New Homes in Rathgill

Fold Housing Association cut the first sod for their new social housing development at Rathgill Parade, Bangor this week. The Fold team were joined by representatives from DSD, NIHE, Ards and Down Council,  MLAs the community and the build team.
 
Anita Conway, Director of Development, said, ''This new build schemes will provide 102 high quality homes for families of varying sizes and includes homes which are wheelchair accessible. The build reflects the needs of families currently on the NIHE waiting list for the Bangor area.  We believe this exciting development will be of great community benefit.
 
She added, ''Fold Housing Association remains committed to working with local residents and the wider community to provide quality and affordable homes. We would like to extend our thanks to the Department for Social Development, the Housing Executive and the local political and community representatives for all their hard work and dedication without whom this project would not have become a reality today.''
 
This development was offered to Fold Housing Association as a transfer scheme from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive in February 2014. Planning was received on 26 March 2015 and works commenced onsite with Fold''s appointed Contractor Kelly Brothers on 31 March 2015. The expected completion date of this development is November 2016 with a total build cost in excess of £10.8 million. Fold will receive circa £6 million Housing Association Grant towards the cost of this development.
 
These new modern homes will meet the requirements of the DSD Development Design Guide (including Lifetime Homes and Secure By Design principles) they will also be designed to meet the current enhanced building regulations which has an emphasis on increased insulation, which will help to reduce energy bills along with helping to address fuel poverty issues.
