Tonic Fold Residents Help Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful

17 Apr 2015

Residents and staff from Fold Housing Association''s Tonic Fold in Bangor have been taking part in a mobile volunteering session to aid local charity Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful.

Noel Irvine, Scheme Coordinator at Tonic said, ''Our residents are very active and support a lot of different charities. They were all keen to help Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful as part of their Big Spring Clean campaign by putting together the packs containing information, gloves and refuse sacks that will be distributed to other volunteers who will organise and take part in litter picks and clean ups across Northern Ireland in the coming months.
Jill Hunter, from Volunteer Now, who hosted the volunteering session said, “Eighteen (18) tenants took part in the volunteering session, each contributing 3 and a half hours of their time to the cause. This calculates to an amazing 63 hours volunteering donated to the campaign.
She added, ''Mobile volunteering means that the opportunity to volunteer comes to the group who want to take part.   It is as much about getting together and being social as it is about volunteering.  Many groups already meet for a cuppa and a chat so mobile volunteering provides a perfect add on activity - they get to find out about new things and campaigns and make a valuable time contribution to campaigns. It is win-win for everyone.
