Malton Fold Community Chest Fund

Malton Fold which is a sheltered scheme for tenants who are over 55 and live independently applied for a Community Chest grant to support them with their gardening project, as the tenants wanted to start growing their own fruit and vegetables and have an activity to work on all year round.  

On receipt of the grant the tenants were able to purchase gardening equipment to start growing their own fruit and vegetables. 

This grant promoted positive mental health and well-being for the tenants as they were working outside in the fresh air exercising while gardening and working together which reduced social isolation. 

This project meets the outcomes of five Community Chest themes: building community capacity, working for community change, developing pride in where they live, enhancing participant’s wellbeing, confidence and social skills, promoting inclusion within communities.
